Click Start, type regedit into the program window at the bottom and then press Enter.
In the Registry Editor click the plus sign next to the following folders in order:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
System
CurrentControlSet
Control
MediaProperties
PrivateProperties
Joystick
OEM
and delete any folders in there starting with VID_06A3.
Now unplug your controller, reinsert it and the forces should now work.

Saitek Joysticks and Vista
A number of users have reported not feeling any force feedback with their Saitek joystick when running under Vista. It turns out there is an issue with the Saitek software drivers, which is discussed on the Saitek forums. See this threadfor all the details. A workaround is presented there which has worked for me and other users as well. I'll reprint it here for your convenience.
